I have enjoyed creating since I was a child. In particular, I have been fascinated by faces and classnotes were filled with profiles and full views. My face sketches continued in the 9-5 world-- meeting notes found little room around the faces dominating the page. And now while my work since 2004, consists of full figures the emphasis remains on the face. Sometimes serious often impish at times somber but emotions of childhood innocence. Antiques and collectibles have been a love of mine since my teen years. For more than 30 years I have collected and have been inspired by them. There is something so comforting in them. The faded colors and wear invoke nostalgic memories of innocence and sometimes foolishness. My work combines my love of these things. They truly are inspired by our impish memories! My art has been considerd fine craft, naive, Americana, folk art, mixed media and three dimensional, however whatever the catagory it is my passion. All pieces are paper mache and they are hand built. No molds are used. Each piece is a one of a kind original figure and many pieces are embellished with old bits of odds and ends. All pieces are signed and dated. Please note that although my work looks like toys or dolls they are fragile pieces of folk art. I have been mentioned in global, regional and local publications, am represented in galleries in the southeast and midwest and have sold my work worldwide. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my site. Carol Roll |
